What We Know About The VW ID.4

Volkswagen has already released a lot of exciting information about the ID.4. Here are some interesting facts to consider before you place your reservation.

It's Compact and Spacious  - While we don't have exact information on size yet, the VW ID.4 is a compact SUV that is expected to be a similar size as the Tiguan. We expect it to be close to 180 inches long and 72" wide. It'll have a spacious cargo area and plenty of backseat space so that even taller passengers are comfortable.

It Has a Long Range Battery - the ID.4 has a large battery and will be able to cover up to 500 kilometers between charges, this equals about 310 miles. It is also expected to offer fast charging capabilities so you can quickly get back on the road.

It Will Be Able to Tow
 - Volkswagen has showed off some videos of the ID.4 towing small trailers and it is expected to be able to tow around 1,900 lbs.

It'll Eventually Be Built in the United States - for now the VW ID.4 will be built in Europe but Volkswagen plans to move production to their Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in the near future.

Environmentally Friendly - the ID.4 is carbon neutral and environmentally friendly. Volkswagen is targeting production of up to 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2025.

It'll Have a Sleek Interior - Klaus Zyciora, Head of Volkswagen Group Design, summarizes the vehicle interior of the versatile SUV in a striking formula: "freedom on the outside, free space on the inside." Zyciora and his team developed the vehicle in his former role as Head of Volkswagen Brand Design. He explains that "the ID.4 brings a new sense of space to its category thanks to the new MEB platform, our modular electric drive matrix." (source: volkswagen-newsroom)

It's Rear Wheel Drive For Now - when the VW ID.4 first launches it'll be available in rear wheel drive only, an all wheel drive variant is expected to follow in the near future.

It Has an Aerodynamic and Functional Design - Good design is also always functional - in an electric vehicle, drag is a key factor for range. "The electric design evolution of the ID.4 also means that we have focused very strongly on the aerodynamics," explains the Head of Volkswagen Design. The ID.4 achieves an excellent drag coefficient of 0.28. The most important factor for this is the flowing basic shape of the vehicle body and passenger compartment, which is significantly drawn in towards the rear. This is complemented by many precisely executed details. For instance, the bodies of the tail light clusters together with the large roof spoiler ensure that the air flow is cleanly separated.
